GDPR is a fundamental document for any e-commerce transaction. This means that GDPR is a requirement for most e-commerce sites. So, what is GDPR?
It's really pretty simple; it's the General Data Protection Regulation. The GDPR is set to require certain data from business owners, to establish and maintain confidentiality for their customers, to preserve information that relates to human rights, and it also aims to protect personal information for certain business and personal users.
How do you follow the GDPR? With a privacy policy. And we can provide an example of how we can use it in our marketing material. First, here is the first paragraph of your Privacy Policy:
Chief Business Officer (CBO) Email List | President Email List | Vice President (VP) Email List | Chief Compliance Officer(CCO) Email List | Chief Development Officer(CDO) Email List | Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) Email List
The GDPR is here to say, that it is very important to your site, that it is essential that you only offer your site to those individuals who intend to buy. When you are making contact with them you must keep them under your control. We need to get these peoples' contact details, and then they should know where to send you their purchases. It is important to you to take personal details from your business customers.
To repeat, personal information is needed. This helps you maintain control, because you can't sell personal information to others. It also makes it very hard for you to abuse your customers if they do not want to purchase your product or service. What we have to do now is to provide a page that describes what you want our visitors to do, and then we use the GDPR.
On this page, we provide a direct link to the contact us page. If there is a question about privacy, then we leave the information blank. Now, we just leave it blank for people to fill in.
And here is the part of the page that asks them if they would like to contact us. We make it very clear that this is a sales page, and we are selling some sort of product. That means the whole page has to be about your product, and not about privacy.
Chief Executive Officers (CEO) Email List | Chief Operating Officer (COO) Email List | Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) Email List | Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Email List | Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Email List | Chief Information Officer (CIO) Email List |
If they choose to contact us, then you need to clearly and accurately describe what kind of problem they are having, what your solution was, and why it was successful. Then you want to provide a link back to your contact us page so that they can actually try it, and see what has worked for them.
It's up to you to decide how you want to deal with it. I'm just sharing an example. It's not fair to everyone else out there to try and make your site better than the rest, so it's best to limit the damage. But if your site is already doing what you're trying to do, and the audience is taking it, then that's all right.
The important thing to remember here is that your policy will provide the customer with a copy of the order form. What they should do is put their name and email address in the order form.
Finally, we show this information in the order page itself. We use a Google AdSense ad to explain what they can do with it. And we also add a question for their own personal use.
